Health Programs Officer

Position Description

The Yale‐China Association seeks to hire a full-time Health Programs Officer based at our headquarters in New Haven, Connecticut. Reporting to the Director of Health Programs, the Health Programs Officer works to support and implement current and new health programs in China and in New Haven.

Responsibilities

  • Manage aspects of the health programs, including supporting and implementing current and new programs in the health portfolio and tracking program progress.

  • Coordinate development and management of work plans for on-going health projects.

  • Support recruitment and selection of health fellows and scholarship recipients, orientation and training, and program execution.

  • Facilitate the health fellows’ academic and life experiences in the US.

  • Write and prepare program reports, briefs, presentations, and papers, including English to Chinese and Chinese to English translation and interpretation.

  • Prepare financial materials and documentation for budgets, grants and reports, and submit payment vouchers for disbursement.

  • Maintain and update Health Programs-related content on the Yale-China website and in Yale-China’s promotional materials.

  • Organize meetings/events/conferences with Yale-China partners in the US and in China and make travel plans and logistical arrangements related to such events.

  • Support the Director of Health Programs in developing new health-related initiatives.

  • Travel to China 2-3 times a year to meet with partners and implement programs.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

This is an early career position that provides a great opportunity for the right candidate to learn and grow. We seek a talented candidate with 1-2 years of work experience in nonprofits and/or health-related field.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.

  • US permanent work authorization required (citizen or Green Card holder).

  • Excellent Chinese language skills, both oral and written and used in a professional setting.

  • Strong commitment to people-to-people exchanges and supporting underserved communities.

  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills that allow the candidate to work effectively in the United States and China in health-related environments.

  • Flexible, respectful, and collaborative work style.

  • Excellent organizational skills and great attention to details.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, demands and deadlines.

  • Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and plan ahead to independently complete projects.

  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other basic office technologies, such as Salesforce.

PLEASE NOTE: Short-listed candidates may be interviewed in Chinese, to verify level of fluency in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese.

Salary range: $55,000-$58,000/year, commensurate with experience; Yale University benefits apply.
